Artist's Comments

A bowlful of fruit bats have invaded what was supposed to be a generic still life painting! These miscreants delight in causing havoc and disarray, but despite this, fruit bats are nevertheless far sweeter in disposition than vegetable bats.
Considered a delicacy in some countries, fruit bats are a cause for much controversy among vegetarians. As they straddle the boundary between plant and animal, fruit and flesh, most vegetarians abstain from eating them. Therefore, fruit bats are typically enjoyed by time-poor executives wishing to combine their main meal and dessert in a single course.

Acrylic on illustration board, 38 x 51cm.

oh what a brilliant twist! If only I had your imagination when my techniques teacher kept giving us still life projects in first year!

As always, brilliant technique, great execution and a strong concept. I personally love the grape critters.

Ok, now that is disturbing, lol...but wonderfully done!! :D I particularly love their fun expressions, the overall creativity of their design and the realism of every texture--especially that of the bowl! :faint:

I still have to figure out what I find best, the paining or your description.

The flames and smoke climbed out of every window
And disappeared with everything that you held dear
And you shed not a single tear for the things that you didn't need
'Cause you knew you were finally free ©

Where do you come up with this stuff? Genius!

Beautifully/expertly/awesomely painted blah blah blah you know the drill. ;p It's getting harder and harder to come up with non-repetitive ways to describe how fabulous your paintings are. But I must specifically point out that the rather uninteresting colors of the surroundings do a fabulous job of calling attention to the colorful (and flavorful) little fruit bats.

I especially love the pear bats. They have the most personality to me, and are also the most noticeably bat-like. Their adorable leaf-ears are awesome, as are their upturned pear-noses. The grape bats remind me of fetuses, but they're still cute in their way. XD Really well done, through and through.
