Hordes of Heaven by donnaquinn Hordes of Heaven by donnaquinn
My take on a seraph; acrylic and pastel on acid-free matboard, 45.5 x 66 cm.
Too many colours, you say? Nonsense! Seraphs love a psychadelic disco vibe. ....I don't know what I was thinking. Moral: just because one may have "x" number of colours, doesn't mean one has to apply each one to every painting.

Nicely done, Donna. Exceptional enough that I featured it on my Facebook page with a link back to here for people to find it and you.

It was so long ago that I painted this that I can't remember what inspired me, reference-wise. I do know I wanted to draw "something weird-looking" so maybe it just went from there. I also remember sitting in a perfoming arts centre while sketching the critter (the centre has abstract art on the walls which may have inspired me...?)

Your concept of the Seraph is wicked cool! I can't believe the mixing and the shading this artwork has. I'm truly impressed! :iconawwloveplz:

Awesome and very creative take on the seraphim. My favorite parts are the swirly edges where it looks like it's pulling in space and stars from somewhere.

Sydney looks great from up there! :D Is that Bondi beach?

Possibly... um, I'm not sure. :D This is very much not geographically correct!
Thanks for the lovely comment- the swirly bits were definitely the most fun to do and my fav bit too.

Eeeeeek!

I haven't been online for so long, and I come back to find you've produced an image that will be burned into my eyes forever!

This is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen, it's depth, it's color, the vibrancy.... the view! :faint:

I'm in love, can I marry it?

You're divine, do you know that? From now on I'm worshiping you. Would you like lilies or roses on your alter? :worship:

Can you get watermelon in cut flower form? I didn't think so.
Anyway, silliness aside, it's time for... more silliness? No! It's the part where I say thank you! Thanks for the lovely comment, I appreciate that you took the time to view this pic and that you liked it too. :)

MMMmmm, watermelon! I might be able to swing that here in the southern U.S., I just gotta learn how to cut it flower shaped. :giggle:

The viewpoint behind your seraph is breathtaking! I love the angle, and how it shows the curve of the earth. The human civilization below is perfectly detailed, where everything is attractive and recognizable but doesn't at all distract from the subject seraph. You always have such perfect balance between the detail of your subject(s) and your scenery!

That's not to say that the seraph isn't amazing, too. Because undeniably, it is! I love the creativity of your interpretation. The exposed heart is one of my favorite details there.

The pastel adds a nice texture effect to your usual acrylic loveliness, too.

It was weird, I had such a hard time finding decent ref photos for the background, then antas ran an ad campaign about a new airbus plane, and a giant poster of a plane flying over a harbour came free with the Sunday paper just when I needed it most!
Thank you very much for the comment; it is thoughtful and I greatly appreciate it (as I do all your comments).
